ILAPS´S and Castleberry Peace Institute´s visit to Nabusimake at Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

As part of its ongoing regional engagement, ILAPS carried out a visit to Nabusímake in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, together with our ally, the Castleberry Peace Institute. During this mission, we were accompanied by members of the Arhuaco Indigenous community, with whom we engaged in dialogue and listened closely to their claims and perspectives. The visit provided a comprehensive view of the panorama of human and environmental security in the Sierra Nevada, highlighting both the vulnerabilities faced by local communities and the urgent need to safeguard this vital ecosystem. Particular emphasis was placed on the intersections between cultural survival, environmental protection, and the broader challenges of governance in the region. ILAPS and its partners also explored potential initiatives for collaboration with government entities, identifying opportunities to strengthen institutional responses in ways that respect Indigenous autonomy while addressing security and sustainability concerns.
