About Nicolás
Nicolás Devia Valbuena is a Program Officer with the Latin American Institute for Peace and Security.

His work centers on conflict resolution, stabilization, and institutional resilience, with a particular focus on Haiti, Colombia, and the countries of Northern Central America, as well as emerging dynamics in Bolivia and Venezuela.
​
Before joining ILAPS, Devia Valbuena served as a Regional Program Specialist with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), where he advanced research and dialogue initiatives on democratic governance, citizen security, and peace process design. He previously worked with the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), ProMéxico, and the Organization of American States (OAS), and partnered with the Department of State on conflict prevention analyses in Lebanon.

A frequent commentator and contributor to regional media, Nicolás regularly appears on specialized outlets and podcasts discussing issues of peace, conflict, and security in the Americas. His research and commentary explore the intersection of fragile institutions, violence, and negotiation processes, with an emphasis on innovative approaches to citizen participation, transitional justice, and cultures of lawfulness.

He holds a Master’s degree in Security Policy Studies with concentrations in Conflict Resolution and Transnational Security from The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations with a minor in Peace, Security and Conflict studies from Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia.
Devia Valbuena is fluent in Spanish, English, and French.
